Wasalu Muhammad Jaco (born February 16, 1982) better known by his stage name Lupe Fiasco, is an American rapper. He rose to fame in 2006 following the success of his critically acclaimed debut album, Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor. Prominent hip hop mogul Jay-Z describes him as a "breath of fresh air" in a new hip-hop world characterized by mainstream pop and glamour, a sharp contrast with the widespread lyricism-focused rap of the 1990s, and critics have called him the "hip-hop Generation Next vanguard."[1] His second album, Lupe Fiasco's The Cool, was released on December 18th, 2007.

Lupe Fiasco was born and raised on the Westside of Chicago,[2] Wasalu Jaco is the fifth child of nine brothers and sisters. His father (died February 27, 2007) was an engineer, a prolific African drummer, karate teacher and owner of karate schools and army surplus stores.[3] His mother was a gourmet chef.[4] Jaco went to high school at Thornton Township High School in Harvey, Illinois.[5] He started rapping when he was in the eighth grade, but was initially put off by the vulgarity and violent imagery of his father's Public Enemy and N.W.A. records.[2] It wasn't until he heard Nas' 1996 album, It Was Written, at the age of 17 that he began to pursue hip hop music.[4][3]

Growing up, Jaco was given the nickname "Lu", the last part of his first name, by his mother. "Lupe" is an extension of this nickname, which he borrowed from a friend from high school. "Fiasco," he says, "came from the Firm album. They had the song, 'Firm Fiasco'. I just liked the way it looked on paper".

More info:

Paul Slayton (born on March 30, 1980[1]) better known by his stage name Paul Wall, is a rapper, DJ, promoter and jeweller, originally part of Houston hip-hop group The Color Changin' Click.[1]. Wall is a graduate of Jersey Village High School and studied mass communications at The University of Houston for three years.[2] He is affiliated with Swishahouse Records, having released several albums under the label as well as collaborating with other rappers signed to the label.

At a young age Paul Wall, along with fellow rap music artist and childhood friend Chamillionaire, decided to make music his career. One day while promoting themselves at a Texas event, he and Chamillionaire ran into Michael "5000" Watts, a popular mixtape DJ from northern Houston. After proposing to do promotions for Watts' company, Swishahouse, Chamillionaire and Paul Wall came to Watts' studio and convinced Watts to allow them freestyle on an intro to Watts' radio show on Houston hip-hop station KBXX.[3] Watts, who was convinced to rap on the record, enjoyed the freestyle so much that he put the verses on one of his mixtapes. The freestyle became so popular in the streets that Chamillionaire and Paul Wall became regular staples on Houston's mixtape circuit, appeared on several of Watts' mixtapes, and became permanent members of Swishahouse.

So during my time off, I've picked up a few books to read. One of them is The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham. It is touted by Warren Buffett as "by far the best book on investing ever written." Let's see if I can become the next Warren Buffett. ;)

More info:

35 years after Nixon started the war on drugs, we have over one million non-violent drug offenders living behind bars.

The War on Drugs has become the longest and most costly war in American history, the question has become, how much more can the country endure? Inspired by the death of four family members from "legal drugs" Texas filmmaker Kevin Booth sets out to discover why the Drug War has become such a big failure. Three and a half years in the making, the film follows gang members, former DEA agents, CIA officers, narcotics officers, judges, politicians, prisoners and celebrities. Most notably the film befriends Freeway Ricky Ross; the man many accuse for starting the Crack epidemic, who after being arrested discovered that his cocaine source had been working for the CIA.

AMERICAN DRUG WAR shows how money, power and greed have corrupted not just drug pushers and dope fiends, but an entire government. More importantly, it shows what can be done about it. This is not some 'pro-drug' stoner film, but a collection of expert testimonials from the ground troops on the front lines of the drug war, the ones who are fighting it and the ones who are living it.

After 4 years of production including several sold out test screenings in New York, Austin & Los Angeles, the final version of American Drug War "the last white hope" is locked and loaded.

DJ Shadow - La Zona Rosa - January 18, 2008

From the rational choice theory department... Kicking off our new year on the right beat... DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist @ La Zona Rosa on Jan 18th!

Cool description from the La Zona Rosa website about the show...

Following in the footsteps of their now-legendary "Brainfreeze" (1999) and "Product Placement" (2001) sets, DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist have outdone themselves. Their new, all-45 show, entitled "The Hard Sell," incorporates eight turntables and two guitar loop pedals, allowing tricks and complexity rarely attempted by a DJ duo.

-----

So I just read this great article on Bruce Bueno de Mesquita a political scientist that uses a computer model based on rational choice theory to predict political outcomes. Don't know how accurate the model is, but it's a great read. Check it here, The New Nostradamus.

More info:

DJ Shadow (born Josh Davis in 1972)[1] is an American DJ, turntablist, music producer and songwriter. He is considered a prominent figure in the development of instrumental hip hop and first gained notice with the release of his highly acclaimed debut album Endtroducing....., which was constructed entirely from samples.

DJ Shadow began his music career as a disc jockey for the UC Davis radio station KDVS. During this period he was significant in developing the experimental hip hop style associated with the California-based Solesides record label. His early singles for the label, including In Flux and Lost and Found (S.F.L.), were genre-bending works of art merging elements of funk, rock, hip hop, ambient, jazz, soul, and used-bin found records. DJ Shadow is often cited as a leading creator of U.S. trip-hop, a label he contests. Though his music is hard to categorize, his early contributions were certainly important as an alternative to the voice of hip hop and gangsta rap, scenes that never accepted him. He cited groups such as Kurtis Mantronik, Steinski and Prince Paul as influences on his sample-based sound, further claiming that "lyrics ...were confining, too specific". His music rarely features voices or vocal work. [2].

Although he previously released several original works (during 1991-1992 for Hollywood Records) by the time Mo' Wax's James Lavelle contacted him about releasing In/Flux on the fledgling imprint, it wasn't until his distribution association with Mo' Wax that his sound began to mature and cohere.

He eventually formed the label Quannum Projects in 1999 out of the previous label Solesides.

DJ Shadow has also collaborated with fellow hip-hop DJ Cut Chemist. Together they have created two popular mixtapes entitled Brainfreeze and Product Placement. These mixes fuse jazz, funk, and soul in the framework of a cohesive concept. He has also collaborated with several other artists, including Blackalicious, Zack de la Rocha, Keak Da Sneak, Mos Def, David Banner and Dr. Octagon (also known as Kool Keith).

In 2005, Brian Udelhofen began work on the Shadow Percussion Project, an attempt to adapt some of the tracks from Endtroducing... for a live performance group. The result was largely successful and well-received by DJ Shadow himself.[citation needed]

In 2006, he signed a deal with Universal Records.

Interview: J Biz R

J Biz R (aka JBizzy) of Dented Mindz is soon to be a household name... comin' up in the Austin Hip Hop Scene... We recently got a chance to catch up with him outside of his busy schedule. Thanks for taking the time... here's what he had to say...

Can you give your fans a quick bio of yourself?

I'm a rapper from Austin Texas and founder of my very own production company DENTED MINDZ PRODUCTIONS. I have been rapping and putting together projectz since 2003. Solo and working with other members of my group DENTED MINDZ. I have Produced and written over 300 songs, 8 underground albums. Dubbing my solo music Polar Rap. My style is often that of a bi-polar person. Sometimez I'm friendly/party-party. Sometimez im wicked/sinister. I like to divide the two into separate projectz.

Every Halloween I release a limited amount of my Darker style albums. This year it was the first of the series "The Terror Tapez Vol.I". Available in most Austin Record Storez.

Because I've lived in many different places throughout the United Statez. I've become very versitile, allowing me to have a great sense of adapting to what ever project I happen to be working on.

Which is your latest CD? and how do you think it differs from your previous works?

Actually, I have two that just came out.

First was my Full-length Halloween Album. . . THE TERROR TAPEZ VOL. I

Then on Veterines Day 2007, I released my newest mixtape for free download at www.soundclick.com/jbizr . It'z entitled. . . MIND BENDIN' MIXXTAPE .
20 trackz of that raw rap spillin, hi-jacked beat havin, remix flavor packin freshness!

With every project I really feel that I grow as a Artist. So the Biggest difference is that slowly you see the quality of work inproving.

I look back at old projects and think. . . ... "I can't believe I left it that way!"

But hey, Live and Learn baby! . . ..

What gives you inspiration and how does that transpire into your music?

Honestly, a nice peace of mind. After a couple of bluntz and few drinkz. When all the drama is off my mind for the night. The sound of nothingness kickz in. That shit'z fuckin' nice!!

Now, I'm kind of a workaholic so I eventually start feeling the need to be doing something productive. So I hit the lightz up the studio and get to work. It'z a beutiful thing!

Which artists inspire you the most? and why?

First would have to be Tupac Shakur. Followed by Esham Smith, Insane Clown Posse and Tech N9ne.

I've alwayz admired multiple-style artistz that had lotz of material. It really showz the dedication of a person to have such a volume of music.

What has kept you from moving to cities with larger markets? especially since it's only been recently that Houston has blown up.

Well, I will take any chance to do a show anywhere. If I'm traveling, as long as the price is right! I was actually born in Houston, I go there every once in a while, but I would love to go more often. Shit, if your a promoter, . . .. Hit me up!!

How do you see the scene locally? and where do you see it going?

I see several different campz of artist around Austin. It'z good to see the unity.
They heard of us (Dented Mindz). Might not know alot about us, but we're around,
I'm around. See I'm striving to make this DMz a household name!
People just need to listen out for it!

What is your favorite venue to perform at? and why?

We use to do alot of open mic'z @ the Gatherings back when DJ Notion was having those at Emo's Lounge. I like that place alot. Also Flamingo Cantina on sixth has a good atmosphere.

Can you give us 3 of your most favorite local artists?

Locally. . ...
Bavu is cool.
Jonny Danger rocks some shit. (but I think he just moved to Dallas.)
Dubb Sicks is fresh, (though he never callz a motha fucka back!).
It'z all good though!

What is the best piece of advice that someone in the industry has given you?

"Watch those closest to you."

Straight up!!

And a more light-hearted question: Have you seen a correlation between your level of success and quality of hoes?

Chickz just tend to be hotter when your out on the seen.
I think it all dependz on how you go about handling them. If your just meeting the chick, don't tell her exactly what it is that you do.
If it'z at a show to where it'z pretty obviouse, then just watch all the pretty smilez.
That too is a beutiful thing!

Any parting words?

I just wanna part with these final wordz. . ..

"Watch for the snakez, be like an owl at night."

and as alwayz, STAY DENTED!!!

S.T.A.T.I.K. - Emo's - November 29, 2007

From the let's get this game started, go Dallas! department... Thanks Adrian for the shout... S.T.A.T.I.K., Blacklisted Individuals, Mars Wars, Betaplayer, Yadira Brown and The Underwater Orchestra @ Emo's Lounge tonight, Nov. 29th... after the game!

-----

More info:

You may not have heard of him, but he sounds kind of familiar. You may not recognize him, but you feel like you’ve seen him somewhere before. If you’ve been involved in California’s hip hop scene all your life, chances are you’ve either seen him at a show, been to his club, DJ’d alongside him, or bought music from him.

S.T.A.T.I.K. became a turntablist at a young age and Hip Hop had naturally become his life. In high school, he organized and hosted the first DJ battle on campus ever to take place during school hours. He was responsible for throwing phat concerts and giant parties, also new for the school. While taking a few community college courses, he hosted a Hip Hop radio show on a local station. Being booked gig after gig throughout the Bay Area with or without his former SwingSet crew, S.T.A.T.I.K. was ready for a change of scenery and headed south in 1997. It seemed like Riverside was just waiting for S.T.A.T.I.K. to come along. With a few partners, he founded Red Light District at Incahoots on Thursday nights. He brought in such acts as Cotton Mouth Kings, Incubus, and the Luniz. From Riverside, he made his way toward the city, still spinning at various gigs, and worked alongside Chuck of Hollywood Hip Hop, stocking the record store with independent must-haves like Planet Asia, Living Legends, and the Visionaries.

Nick Nack - Fuego's Bar - November 30, 2007

From the Thanksgiving blues department... Nick Nack & Xman @ Fuego's Bar on Nov 30th.

-----

Congrats to my friends Ruchi and Paul on their recent wedding... and to freezing my ass off at the Cowboys/Jets' game Thanksgiving Day... good times!

More info:

From vinyl manipulation on the turntables, to current production of jazz infused hiphop tracks, Crowd Control Records CEO, NickNack is a true soundcraftsman. His musical journey began in the late 80's after making the transition from hiphop spectator to participant. Cutting his teeth from the very beginning as a young appreciative turntablist knocking off rivals at Dallas' Sound Wars battles in the mid-nineties, Nick has worked hard to encompass a broad vision of ability, and a verbose sense of instrumentality, to match his already fruitful passion for music.

These days you can find Nick performing/touring with the jazz band BLAZE, or hear him rocking dance floors at various downtown clubs. Most recently, Nick has been enjoying the success of his latest full length release, "Improving Silence". The record has garnered him international attention and sales have been phenomenal. His progression as an artist and deejay is quite obvious, but his job is never done. Always in exploration of advancing his full turntablist potentials, and with countless projects on the horizon, Nick has grown into a unique artist, in a constant search of endeavors new and improved. Stay tuned, because this is only the beginning.

More info:

Richard Walters (born January 14, 1965), better known by stage names Slick Rick, MC Ricky D and Rick the Ruler, is a rapper. Originally from South Wimbledon, London, England, he moved with his family to The Bronx in 1975 where he met B-Weezy who taught him how to rap. [1]Rick's characteristic eyepatch was acquired after being blinded in the right eye by broken glass as an infant. In a VH1 special, it was revealed the broken glass was caused during a holiday dinner gunfight. He is best known for a series of rap recordings during the 1980s, including "Children's Story" and "La Di Da Di". Once he gained a degree of wealth, he earned a reputation for wearing an enormous amount of gold and diamond jewelry, including many large necklaces with giant pendants, bracelets, huge rings on each finger, and gold tooth.[1]

Charlie Rock of Harlem World crew was instrumental in bringing Slick Rick and Doug E. Fresh together when Doug requested an introduction after he had seen him win local MC battle contests. It was at an MC contest at the 369 Armory on 142nd street in Harlem, given by promotion partners Ray Chandler & Charlie Rock, that Rick & Doug were formally introduced by Rock.

Slick Rick released the song "La Di Da Di" in 1985 which features Doug E. Fresh and the Get Fresh Crew. His first album The Great Adventures of Slick Rick was released in 1988 while he was living in Brooklyn. "Children's Story", which appears on The Great Adventures of Slick Rick, is one of the most famous songs in rap and has been covered by Black Star, Black Rob, Everlast, Messy Marv, Tricky's side project Nearly God, and, Snoop Doggy Dogg. "Children's Story" was also featured on the videogame Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas on Playback FM, a classic hip-hop station. The album attained platinum status, but Rick was unable to exploit this due to an arrest for attempted murder.

He shot a bystander and his cousin whom he’d hired as a body guard and who later admitted to having Walters shot outside a club in 1991. Russell Simmons, head of Def Jam records, bailed him out and Rick quickly recorded The Ruler's Back before spending five years in prison, two for the second degree attempted murder charges he received for that shooting, and three while hassling with Immigrations Services over his residency in the US.

"La Di Da Di", "Mona Lisa" and "Children's Story" are among his best known songs, with "La Di Da Di" being covered nearly word-for-word by Snoop Dogg on his 1993 album Doggystyle, and lines from "La Di Da Di" being borrowed by multiple high profile artists. "Children's Story" was sampled by Montell Jordan for his 1995 hit, "This Is How We Do It", and Black Star did a cover of it on their debut album. Eminem also borrowed from the song extensively in his diss song "Can-I-Bitch".

More info:

Little Brother is an American hip-hop group from North Carolina that consists of Phonte and Rapper Big Pooh. Producer 9th Wonder was a part of the group since its inception, but left before recording the album Getback. Their debut album The Listening (2003) was highly acclaimed, and was followed by The Chittlin Circuit 1.5 mixtape in 2005 and the group's second album, The Minstrel Show, also released in 2005 and received a "XL" from XXL magazine and 4.5 Mics from The Source. The group tours frequently with their official DJ, Flash. In an interview with MVRemix.com, Phonte explained the origins of his group's name: "Tribe, De La, P.E....were like our big brothers in the game so now we are the little brothers of that movement...carrying on the tradition of good music."[1]

Little Brother formed in Durham, NC at North Carolina Central University in 1998. The group began as a trio, featuring members Phonte (Phonte Coleman), Big Pooh (Thomas Jones), and producer 9th Wonder (Pat Douthit). They are founding members of the North Carolina hip-hop collective called The Justus League, under the umbrella music group The Hall of Justus.

Their official debut came in August 2001 with their first recording, “Speed;” the song talks about making it big in the music business while still dealing with the troubles and hardships of life and holding down a full-time job. They continued to work the local scene and were picked up by ABB Records. In 2002, they released the cult hit 7" single Atari 2600, with lyrics centering around video games. In 2003, the group released their first full length album, The Listening. This record boosted the group to higher acclaim, but national recognition came when Jay-Z tapped 9th Wonder for the song "Threat," off of his eighth offering The Black Album.

More info:

Dennis Coles (born May 9, 1970 in Staten Island, New York), better known by the stage name Ghostface Killah, is an American rapper. Ghostface first rose to fame as a member of the Wu-Tang Clan hip hop collective. After the group achieved breakthrough success in the early-mid 1990s, each member was free to pursue solo careers; Ghostface's would turn out to be one of the most critically and commercially successful of the group, regardless of, and perhaps due to, his loyalty to his obscure yet highly vivid lyrics and 1970's soul sound. Early in his career, he would wear a mask during performances and photo shoots; it was rumored that this was because Ghostface was wanted by the police and did not publicly remove it until his name was cleared. He is a former follower of The Nation of Gods and Earths and currently a Sunni Muslim. After converting, he changed his name to Abdul Raheem.[1][2]

Ghostface Killah debuted with the rest of the Wu-Tang Clan on "Protect Ya Neck" and "Tearz" from the Clan's critically acclaimed debut, 1993's Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). A roommate of Wu-Tang founder The RZA, Ghostface helped bring together the other seven members, and would function as executive producer on all the Wu-Tang Clan releases.

In 1995, Ghostface would guest star extensively on fellow Clan member Raekwon's debut album, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx.... He also contributed songs to the Sunset Park and Don't Be A Menace To South Central While Drinking Your Juice In The Hood soundtracks, which would be included on his first solo LP, Ironman, in 1996. The album, which debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200, had a more pronounced soul influence (particularly 1970s soul) than previous Wu-Tang releases, and Ghostface's future albums would continue this stylistic trait.

Rapid Ric - Beauty Bar - November 17, 2007

It's dope the NBA season's started. I have much hope for the Rockets this season... Tracy, Yao and team better step it up a notch... it'll be a good season. I only wished we got games in Austin. :(

More info:

“Rapid Ric is one of the fastest rising DJ’s in the South right now, and it’s mostly because of the skill he brings to his art form.” – Chamillionaire

While Texas’ slow and soulful underground movement went mainstream in 2005, millions of CD’s by Texas artists flew off the shelves as MTV and even the New York Times co-signed the Lone Star State. Meanwhile, every mixtape Rapid Ric dropped (Z-Ro’s Greatest Verses, Whut It Dew 2, Afta Da Relays, Getcha Weight Up, King of the Trill, Whut it Dew 3) boosted his star higher as Texas stayed hot on Atlanta's heels as the next big thing in Southern hip-hop music.

In 2006, the 25-year-old set himself even farther apart from his peers with “Before Da Relays”, “Afta Da Relays”, Chalie Boy’s “Versatyle Child”, Magno’s “City Boyz” and the 4th quarter monster “Whut It Dew 4”. He mans the pipeline of the Lone Star State's top talent, furthering the self-made legacy of Screw, Swishahouse’s Michael Watts, Chamillitary and Slim Thug’s Boss Hogg Outlaws. Rapid Ric’s Whut it Dew series – the first of which was hosted by Chamillionaire prior to his platinum debut album – has solidified his niche as a trendsetter and tastemaker by progressing Texas’ regional underground sound.

B-Girl City - Ruta Maya - November 17, 2007

From the getting calls from the manager on the weekend department... The 2nd Annual B-Girl City @ Ruta Maya on Nov 17th. It'll be hot to see some girls just break it down...

More info:

A B-boy/beat-boy (male) or B-girl/beat-girl (female) is a person devoted to hip-hop culture, specifically the breakdance element. The term "b-boy" has come to refer more specifically to a male who practices what the media refers to as breakdancing, i.e., an individual who has the ability to perform rhythmic dance combining a variety of dance forms with gymnastics and original body movements. These stylized movements are commonly known as "breaking" or "breakdancing," and B-boys are often called breakdancers.

There are four basic elements which form the foundation of B-boying. The first is Toprock, a term referring to the upright dancing and shuffles that B-boys do when they enter a circle. The second element is the Downrock or Footwork, refers to dancing performed on the floor. The third element, is known as the Freeze, refers to the poses that B-boys throw into their dance sets to add punctuation to certain beats and end their routines. The fourth and final element of bboying is the Power moves. These are acrobatic moves normally made up of circular motions where the dancer will spin either on the floor, or in the air.

A related dance form which influenced B-boyings Uprocking / Rocking / The Rock Dance, also performed while standing, and a style of dance in which both dancers fabricate ways of beating the opponent using fictional weaponry and embarrassing situations in rhythm with the music (Burning). This style involves moves called Yerks [pronounced Jerks] which are a set of motions executed to the break of a track and are where most of the battling occurs, outside of the break of a track is where the freestyle element of the dance is executed with great musicality throughout.

Aesop Rock - Emo's - November 17, 2007

From the everyone's using Facebook these days department... Aesop Rock @ Emo's on Nov 17th... with Rob Sonic, DJ Big Wiz, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Blockhead with DJ Signify.

Got word from by boi Ebun... there's a new album out by Saul Williams, The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust, you can get the album free at the site and also to support Saul with $5 for the album. Check it out...

More info:

Aesop Rock (born Ian Matthias Bavitz on 1976-05-11) is an American hip hop artist. He was in the forefront of the new wave of underground acts that emerged during the late 1990s/early 2000s. He is signed to El-P's Definitive Jux label.

A Long Island, New York-born MC, Aesop initially recorded and released two self-financed records, Music for Earthworms (1997), featuring underground legend Percee P on two tracks, and the Appleseed EP (1999), while also working as a waiter. These two independent releases are widely sought after in the underground scene.[citation needed]

After moving to the Mush label, Aesop released his first major album, Float (2000), with guest appearances from Vast Aire, Slug, and Dose One. Production was split between Blockhead and Aesop himself, with one track by Omega One.

Shortly after releasing Float, Aesop Rock signed to Manhattan-based label Definitive Jux (commonly shortened to Def Jux), where he released Labor Days, an album dedicated to the discussion of labor in American society and the concept of "wage slaves". This album was most well known for its single "Daylight." Because of its popularity, Daylight was re-released in 2002 as a 7-track EP, including an "alternative" new version of the song, "Night Light," whose paraphrased lyrics simultaneously refer back to, and stand in stark opposition to, the original's.

Labor Days was followed by Bazooka Tooth in 2003. For the first time, production was mostly handled by Aesop himself, with three tracks from longtime collaborator Blockhead and one from close friend and Definitive Jux label CEO El-P. Guest appearances include Party Fun Action Committee, El-P, and Mr. Lif (all Definitive Jux labelmates) and Camp Lo. With this release Aesop hit a higher level of recognition, releasing "No Jumper Cables" as a single and music video, then another single, "Freeze," shortly after.

In the summer of 2004, Aesop Rock appeared on the Evil Nine Single "Crooked" from the Album You Can Be Special Too, on Marine Parade records.

In February 2005, Aesop Rock released a new EP, Fast Cars, Danger, Fire and Knives. The first pressing of the EP included an 88 page booklet with lyrics from every release from Float until this EP (the lyric booklet is titled The Living Human Curiosity Sideshow); later pressings of the album come without the booklet, but with an additional bonus track. In addition, a limited number of albums were available direct from Def Jux with Aesop Rock's graffiti tag on them. In response to demands from his fans, Aesop did less production on the EP: three songs are produced by Blockhead, three produced by Aesop, and one by Rob Sonic.

Aesop Rock was commissioned to create a 45-minute instrumental track for the Nike+iPod running system, entitled All Day. It was released in February 2007. Distributed via the iTunes Music Store and featuring Allyson Baker on guitar and scratches from DJ Big Wiz, Aesop has described the release as "something that evolved enough that the sound was constantly fresh and attractive, as though the runner were moving through a set of differing cities or landscapes." [1]

All Day was followed in August of the same year by Bavitz's fifth full-length album, None Shall Pass (2007).

Atmosphere - Emo's - October 30, 2007

From the clowns are scary department... For the Everybody Loves A Clown Tour... Atmosphere hits Emo's this Tuesday, Oct 30th... with fellow Rhymesayers... Mac Lethal, Grayskul, and Luckyiam of Living Legends.

More info:

Imagine how many cigarettes, beers, tour dates, international flights, all-night drives, backstage shenanigans, countless hours in a van, low-budget hotel rooms, notebooks filled with lyrics and endless hours of recording sessions have been consumed, experienced and sustained by Atmosphere over the course eight years?

Let’s count to eight.

Remember 1997, the year beginning the next phase of independent rap artists and a new era of imprint-based record labels with the major label exploitation; the dividing period of: Mos Def, Jay Z, Company Flow and 2 Pac. Our story begins at this time in Minneapolis, MN. Eight years ago, when Atmosphere released their debut album Overcast!, on the artist’s collectively owned Rhymesayers label. Slug, Ant, with then member Spawn, delivered the premier staple album defining Minnesota Hip Hop. It would introduce a small audience to Midwest rap, not music from New York or California, but Minneapolis, MN. Atmosphere, a group built on Hip Hop principles influenced from the pioneering years of rap music, but with their own personal, honest and original mid-western contribution.

A year had passed and Atmosphere’s song, Scapegoat, received national play on college radio and mix tape support in: Chicago, New York and Los Angeles. Atmosphere was becoming discovered outside of the Twin Cities; the secret was out. During this time, both Slug and Ant were also involved in one of independent rap’s first underground super groups, The Dynospectrum (Slug, I Self Devine, Ant, Musab, Gene Poole), and had featured tracks on Industrial Warfare (volume six of the legendary Headshots four-track cassette series). For Atmosphere, 1998 was a year of collaborations (including recording Deep Puddle Dynamics) and a year well spent crafting their live performance at venues like First Avenue’s 7th Street Entry.

Nick Nack - Whisky Bar - October 27, 2007

From the recovering from Afrika Bambaataa department... Nick Nack and Xman @ Whisky Bar tonight, Oct 27th for some 90s Hip Hop (Oh the good ol' days), Dance, and 80's.
