AHHS Monthly Mixtape Showcase Party

When this is posted, it will be the day of the 2012 election between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney. While I think this election is of utmost importance, I will refrain from spewing my political views on this post. I will just leave it at, we are very fortunate to be in America and have the ability to express our political views freely and exercise our right to vote for those who govern us, so don't take it for granted.

I also want to impart on you the importance of the AHHS Monthly Mixtape Showcase Party on November 8th (this Thursday) at Red 7 presented by p-teK (who's done most of the leg work for the party) and myself. This show is not just any show, it is a celebration of the diverse Hip Hop landscape here in Austin. It is a chance for us to shine. It is a chance for the venues in town to take a second look at hosting local Hip Hop shows. The success of this show will mean that the culture we love and support can coexist and thrive in a city populated by indie rock and country.

And for the cynics out there, I want you to know that I am making nothing off the show. All the money from the show is going to the artists themselves. So this election year, join me and vote for local Hip Hop with your presence at the AHHS Monthly Mixtape Showcase Party!

Kato Dox Vies For Myx TV's Press Play Season 2

Austin Hip-Hop artist, Kato Dox, is hoping for a shot to be on Season 2 of Myx TV's Press Play. Myx TV is an Asian-American music entertainment and lifestyle network. The winners of Press Play will be flown to the Myx TV headquarters to record their music in their state-of-the-art studios. And will also get to work with award-winning producers, directors, and crew who will produce a music video of the artists.

AHHS Monthly Mixtape

Boy this summer's been hot! Well just when you thought it couldn't get much hotter, I'm about to put out the first of a monthly installment of mix tapes featuring only Austin hip hop artists. Every month I will be scouring and collecting music from artists in the Live Music Capital of the World and bringing them to you.

The purpose of the project, AHHS Monthly, is to bring awareness about the hip hop scene here in town. Austin is known for it's plentiful and abundant music scene. The city is dominated by great indie rock and country music that often eclipses all other music genres. Unbeknownst to many, the city does in fact have a very lively and beautiful hip hop scene. Just under the surface, you can see great DJ's on their turntables, break dancers in their bboy stance, artists decorating drab concrete canvases, and MC's rhyming about the human spirit. All touching the soul in the most powerful way.

With the AHHS Monthly Mixtape, I would like to change the awareness deficiency and what better way than to show people through music. Every month, I will be bundling together 10 songs from Austin hip hop artists, both established and up and coming. The mix tape will be given away for free and will contain mp3's and an html that detail the songs and the artists.

The first volume called simply "Blue" will drop in the last week of the month on Monday, July 30th through the AHHS Monthly Newsletter.
