This feature-length documentary explored the lives of two teams of slam poets, one hailing from Austin, TX, and the other representing the Urbana Poetry Slam in New York City as they prepared for and competed at the 2004 National Poetry Slam in St. Louis, MO. We examined the development of these teams of poetic warriors, as well as their uniquely compelling backstories. Slam Planet also features interviews with celebrity visionaries of the spoken word movement such as TV Hall of Fame Producer Norman Lear, Hip Hop godfather Russell Simmons, and Slam's founding father, Marc Smith.
The film is premiering at the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin. Dates and times:
